The past couple days have stirred some strong emotions. Similar emotions to those I felt while watching Alex Haley's Roots and studying Black history in school. Martin Luther King Day was commemorated yesterday in Cleveland. Cole and I spent the day visiting museums in the area. Our second stop, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While viewing the exhibits soulful music was performed from the main hall. A group singing, Midnight Train to Georgia and some Marvin Gay. Cole and I watched from the sidelines, I was wiggling the stroller, taping my foot to the beat. It was great to experience the energy, excitement and celebration for 2 men, Martin Luther King and President Obama. I feel honored to be an observer of progress. Yesterday I danced on the sideline a minority among African American, today I witnessed with Americans welcoming the historic occasion.

At last- what a song, what a moment, what a couple.

My only claim to fame & political prestige was to share names with previous first lady, Laura Bush. Her name before marrying George W, Laura Welch. I enjoyed this commonality with American royalty. After giving birth to my son, the recovery nurse at the hospital walked into my room and asked,"how is the first lady feeling?" Well, special perks in the hospital were short and with the Bush's out of the white house my name has no claim... just a branch on my family tree. It was fun while it lasted.
